Global/Helsinki Sustainability Jam 28-30.10.
From 28-30 October, people interested in a design-based approach to creativity will meet at locations all over the globe in what is called a Global Sustainability Jam. Different people are welcome to attend-"service designers, object designers, sustainability experts, professors, business people, teachers, hackers, makers, artists, students, kids, mums and grandpas"-and form locally-based teams, working together for 48 hours to develop "brand-new real-world ideas" on the theme of sustainability. The Helsinki gathering will take place at Hub Helsinki.



The community of Jams take place internationally over the same weekend. All the Jams share the same starting themes, and publish their local results over a central platform. The theme and constraints for participants in the Global Sustainability Jam will be announced at 5:00PM (local time) on the Friday, and results must be shared by 3:00pm (local time) on the Sunday.

The 'Global/Helsinki Sustainability Jam' is an example of a networked 'service design' non-profit event, Organised by a local or international network of people who are: Interested in a design-based approach to creativity and problem solving, related for example, to sustainability issues; and aiming to encourage experimentation and innovation. In Finnish, it could be called a 'tietotalkoot'.

Think-tank Demos Helsinki are organising in the next couple months two Innovation Camps as part of their Peloton campaign, which pushes companies and other organisations to create services, products and social innovations that systematically lower the energy need of our lifestyle. Another brainstorming event-series which has had success in the Baltic Sea region, is IdejuTalka from Latvia.
