2nd Stop on Virtuality Grand Tour!
13 February 2012, Andrew Gryf Paterson Event: 2nd Stop on Virtuality Grand Tour

The Pixelversity cluster theme ‘Virtuality, Social Identity & Augmented Reality’ continues its activity on Wednesday 15.2. at 18.00 with the second stop on the Virtuality Grand Tour*. Hosted by Owen Kelly, lecturer and researcher at Arcada University of Applied Sciences, Helsinki, we will introduce OpenSim, a open-source virtual world environment, and JokaydiaGRID, a 3D Virtual World focused on Arts and Education.

Participation in the virtual world environment requires in advance to download a OpenSim viewer such as Imprudence, and also to register with JokaydiaGRID. Again the event begins at 18.00 EEST / +2 GMT, and sign in with a Twitter account to Twitvisio #pixelversity channel to hangout.

* A ‘grand tour’ was, in the tradition of classical learning, a travel around cultural landmarks. In this theme we revive the practice online, with each stop on the Virtuality Grand Tour (VGT) exploring different online platform(s) and tools, and is hosted by a particular person.

This online study group relates to practices, projects and communities engaged with the creation of digital tools and protocols that facilitate autonomous user control over the data that constitutes digital identity and digital behaviour, and the exploration of the interfaces between public / private, personal / social and real / virtual. Wednesday May 2nd, 18:00-19:00 EEST/GMT +2 In the 7th Virtuality Grand Tour Stop (and last before Camp Pixelache Virtuality gathering on 11.5.) we are going to play with a toolkit from Google: the G+ Hangout, led by Owen Kelly. Hangout allow to to screenshare, to coordinate Slideshare and YouTube and play group games. We will be looking at the possible value of G+ Hangouts as a pop-up learning resource, with a view to its use at Camp Pixelache and beyond.
